John Souttar to pledge future to Dundee United on 18th birthday

John “Soapy” Souttar looks set to extend his contract on improved terms to follow the example laid down by Ryan Gauld.

With Souttar turning 18 in September, United look set to offer the standout teenager a 5 year contract, to keep him tied to the Premiership high flyers until 2018. And by that time, the towering centre half will still only be 23.

United will have to fend of interest in the defender in both transfer windows in order to sign that contract, with youths like Souttar not being allowed to sign contracts of more than 3 years until they are 18.
