Neil Lennon’s Celtic have been linked with a move for highly rated Dundee United midfielder Stuart Armstrong.
The Scotland Under 21 captain, who recently earned a call-up to the full international squad, has recently signed an extension to his contract at United, with reports saying an offer in the region of £2 million would be required to tempt Stephen Thompson into selling the linchpin. With Peter Houston becoming a Celtic scout recently, United fans will worry that the Scottish Cup winning ex-manager will cherry pick United’s crop of young talent. But with Ryan Gauld signing an extension to his contract, it would seem unlikely that Armstrong would take a sideways step to a club like Celtic.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, McNamara stated
‘There’s been no contact,’ said the United boss late last week.
‘I’m very happy with the way things are shaping up with the squad. We want to keep this squad together for as long as possible.
‘It doesn’t surprise me (the interest in his players) but it doesn’t change anything. It’s just about focusing on what we do.’
